Main Influences for my video
Question 2.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
iMovie '09
I used the Samsung NV10 digital camera for taking photo images that would be included in both of my ancillary tasks. This was merely because of the fact the Pentax camera was playing up in taking still images, but worked fine in video mode. The photos were coming up blurry, which was frustrating but at least I had a back up plan. The Samsung digital camera gave me the perfect images I hoped for, so the absence of my other camera was no bother. Once the photo-shoot for the both ancillary asks was complete, I uploaded them into iPhoto to preview them, then once I was happy with the sizes I imported them into Photoshop, where I manipulated them in a way that they corresponded with each other as well as to the music video.
Although a tripod is not considered a media technology as such, I still thought it was important to comment on how useful it was to me when filming. The Star 75 camera tripod is small and compact when folded up, and so was no hassle at all when carrying it to the next shot location. It served its purpose by giving me steady shots that looked professional and fluent.
Question 3.
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
In order for me to answer this question I wrote up a questionnaire to hand to my target audience when a viewing of my music video was shown as part of our A-level media. The questions that I included within my questionnaire were structured in a way that I would receive as much qualitative feedback as possible.
Question 4.
How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout my blogging process I have made use of many technologies and software to help me design, produce research as well as create and develop my main media product and my two ancillary tasks.

Using Micosoft Powerpoint 2008 Mac, allowed me to create an in-depth but aesthetically pleasing analysis of how current artists are promoted and branded in a specific way in order to attract their intended audience. It allows me to be creative by combining a combination of analysis and pictures in an effective way. I have used this software to illustrate and construct my response to the evaluation question. My choice for doing so is to be diverse in the technologies I use within my evaluation in order for my blog to be more creative and versatile.
iMovie '09
Once my filming process was competed, I uploaded it onto iMovie '09 in order to begin the editing stage. It is a well constructed piece of technology software, as it shows your total footage in a visual way, which allows a coherent and easy editing process. This was useful when placing the footage in chronological order that would construct the basis of the video. The first stage in developing my music video was to import the music file I was using for my video, and to add it to the project file. This was straight forward as iMovie displays a row of icons within the light grey strip to make easily accessible when inserting other media and effects into your video. The following stage involved putting the video into order, with guidance from my final storyboard. Dubbing the inserted audio file to correspond to the visuals of the artist lip syncing, was time consuming as it needed to be precise and accurate. iMovie helped me to create precision with the lip syncing by using the end clipping tool to delete unwanted footage. Simultaneously, I inserted transitions into the video to create a smooth fluency between shot changes. This process was just as straight forward as inserting the music file as you clicked on the transitions icon to display the different types in a scroll bar menu. Within this menu I was able to preview how the transition would look before I was certain to apply it to the video.
Finalising the video with titles that tell the audience the name of the artist, name of song and name of album, help establish the video as professional as this is a convention used with every music video that is aired on digital TV. To conclude my experience using iMovie, it is a well organised piece of software that allows editing to be straight forward in order to create a professional video.

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Adobe Photoshop has allowed me to design, create and modify my work for all 3 media products, as well as for my research. Its main influence for my work was when developing my two ancillary tasks. It enabled me to produce representational products that reflected my music video. I was able to create an image motif as well as design and develop house colours and the typography that would help brand my artist. This helps illustrate a recognisable and reoccurring image through the process of promoting and marketing.
The continuous black white theme that runs through all three media products is emphasised further in both ancillary tasks. Using Photoshop allowed me to repeat the style used in the video by developing the photos I had taken. I was able to change the coloured images to black and white and develop them further by changing the saturation and exposure levels. By using this theme in all three media products it creates continuity and a sense of branding for the artist.
I was able to include institution information such as Domino Records's logo being printed onto both ancillary products, which establishes and certifies them as a genuine product. I also added other institutional details to the digipak, such as the serial number and year of published to make the product seem as genuine as possible. For this information I researched other artists signed to Domino Records to see what details were printed. From the research I found an example from Franz Ferdinand's album . I then decided to include a barcode, to show the conventions of what a real CD would include if it was to be sold. In general, by including this institution information it allowed me to gain a feel for a real product that would be advertised and sold.
On my advert I included the ' Available on iTunes' logo to show that the artist's album is available to purchase from iTunes store, making it convenient for the audience to preview and purchase the music within their own home. This is a feature that is becoming more and more common in this digital age, as music lovers want to music on instantly and on demand.

iPhoto '09
iPhoto was where i initially uploaded my photos, in order for me to analyse them. I only used this software to crop areas within a photo that i didn't like. For example the screenshot above shows photos that I have used throughout my research, planning and evaluation.
The video sharing site Vimeo has allowed me upload drafts of my music video in order for me to explain my processes and development in a visual way. It shows what I have changed through the development stages of my video. This is beneficial as it aloud me to gain feedback from peers on what to change and what to improve on.
I used the ImageShack photo sharing site to upload and share my gif files created to illustrate my shot locations and other photos used for research, planning and both ancillary tasks. It has allowed me to use a more creative way of displaying photos rather than just posting them individually. I think it works well when you have a series of photos you want to share, as it looks more aesthetically pleasing.
Blogger is the main media technology I have been using in order for me to show my journey through my research, planning and evaluation. The internet sharing site allows me to share my work in a digital way, which means it was easy to edit and draft and redraft research and planning ideas. It displays my portfolio of the course in a visually appealing way with the addition of photos and videos. This is very beneficial as you are able to present your work in a way that you would not be possible if you were presenting it as a hand written document. For example, the hosting of videos to show development in my planning is a strong feature of using a media technology such as Blogger. When gatehering ideas for inspiration from other artists I used links to take you to the video on . This is a concept that is possible in a written document as you could write the url link down, however, using a direct link takes the viewer directly to the source and can experience it almost instantly.

SlideShare
I used SlideShare to upload powerpoints, that I created using Microsoft Powerpoint 2008, to make my research, planning and evaluation more aesthetically pleasing.
Camtasia
Camtasia was used to record my computer screen, in order to demonstrate my use of media technologies I have used, and to turn a powerpoint presentation into a video. I think this works well and is very effective because it adds a new dimension in how I can illustrate and present my work, which makes my blog more visually interesting.
Blogger
This is the HD digital camera I used when filming my music video. It's small and compact, which made it easy and comfortable in transporting it from one shooting location to another. I used a 4GB memory card so that I was able to film all that I needed to on one card. This enabled the editing process to run smoothly as I was only uploading video files from one card, instead of several. The size proved to be an advantage as I managed to film all that I wanted, with a lot of memory still left. I thought the quality of the camera was great considering the fact that it is not a professional, top-of-the-range recording camera. It gave me the quality I intended to achieve, some of which I enhanced and edited in order for it to follow the my storyboard. The black and white shots were originally shot in colour, so that I had the choice of leaving some shots in colour if I wanted to even though this was not my intention, and more importantly so that I could judge the lighting qualities within each shot a lot more precisely.
